To the #CatCave Cody!!
original source:

It’s not every day that I receive an email from companies located  in Lithuania or the UK,  so when I first received an email from asking if I wanted to have Cody try their Cat Cave, to say I was leery was an understatement. After a few emails back and forth to check their validity, I agreed, and  I am THRILLED that I did. From the moment the Cat Cave arrived it became an immediate favorite of Cody’s.

Before I tell you about the Cat Cave, let me say that there are similar products on the market, (one of them, The Cat Ball,   I reviewed back in January of 2012, which in it’s genre is theORIGINAL), you can read  that review here.

The Cat Cave isn’t passing itself off as the above mentioned  product. The glaring difference is the other product is open on BOTH ends and is shaped differently. The Cat Cave has only one opening and to me, resembles a giant, comfy EGG. Another difference is the Cat Cave is made of a super comfy, non-scratchy 100% ORGANIC FELTED WOOL.

From the Kivikis Shop On Etsy:

My name is kivikis ;)))
I’m an artist, interested in media arts and graphic design. Currently studying about wool felting.
I glad to see you and Welcome to my small shop.
For a long time I’ve played with the idea of working with wool and I’ve read hundreds of articles and books about felt wool craft. With small steps starting from that idea I’ve begin to practice and make different small items for my friends and family. I loved it! And I became more and more addicted to this job. After found out about Etsy, I decided to take the next step to open a shop here.
From then I’ve tried to become better with my craft every day. From felting, stitching, photographing and shipping,
I   put all my effort and skills in building YOUR PERSONAL 100% HANDMADE item.
All products are shipped from Lithuania.

The shop is named after Kivikis, “actor, model fitter”

Because wool  has a “natural, self-cleaning aspect”, it is only necessary to occasionally wipe the Cat Cave to clean it. But if you want to clean it, here is a charming video that shows you how.

The Cat Caves vary in shape because they are made by hand so each one will be a little bit different.

My only complaint when the Cat Cave arrived was that it wasn’t wrapped inside the box that it was placed in, my suggestion would be to at least wrap it in plastic or something instead of just placing it in a box. That being said, the TRUE TEST?

Right here!
I can count on one hand the number of products that Cody has INSTANTLY taken to without my having to cajole him with treats or catnip. THIS WAS ONE OF THEM.  The day the bed arrived, Cody was suffering from one of his MANY allergy flare-ups. I put the Cat Cave in my office and walked away figuring it would take Cody WEEKS to try it out at all. I was WRONG. I returned approx a half hour later and there he was.

The Cat Cave has remained a favorite since the day it arrived. I couldn’t be happier. If Cody is happy, then I AM HAPPY!

Did you know that there is a small factory in Lithuania, are produced in the beautiful, unique and handmade Filzhöhlen for cats? Me neither. Until last week.

But the fact is: There has been nothing, absolutely nothing, that Katie has taken so quickly in fog. Provided we see from the accompanying box once from. The baptized Filzhöhlen or affectionately Cat houses, made from 100 percent pure organic materials. They are manufactured in the city of Vilnius in Lithuania. Even the name “Vilnius” is to fall in love, because translated it means “small wave”.

Woe to him who also came to their cave only to close.Lilli had no chance from the start. As she lay in the cave, Katie has them away or just simply applied to the input, so yes Lilli also can not get out. While I have made the pictures, Katie has attacked me as soon as I got too close with the camera. Property is just property and belongs to no one else. After all, Katie was sitting there first. Then lying asleep by the way is of course just as well.

You can expect the products of kivikis site view. Much more, however, I recommend the youtube channel and only the newly created facebook page . The videos on youtube show how great are the Filzhöhlen and that really any cat will love. To buy there are the kivikis in Germany so far intwo online shops .

felted cat cave of kivikis

Kivikis Filzhöhle

Cats and caves – often a very suitable combination. My house cat is no exception. If still beautiful, warm felt is added for my three the feel-good experience perfectly. For this reason, I was particularly pleased me that we have a Filzhöhle the brand “kivikis” had the chance. In this review we would like to introduce you to the cave and tell you about our experience with it.

Appearance, dimensions and price

The cat cave looks like an egg made of felt with input. Is oval shaped. They are available in two different sizes: “medium” and “large”. The Medium cave should be suitable for cats weighing 4-6 kg body weight and is 41-44cm long, 21-23cm high and 31-34cm wide. The input of this size is about 14-15cm wide. Size “large” to accommodate cats of 6-8 kg body weight and is 27-30cm high. The entrance of this variant is 17-18cm wide. The large cave is 36-39cm wide and 43-46cm long.

There are various colors: “green birch” (bright grass green), “sky blue” (light blue), “dark gray” (anthracite), “sand brown” (light beige-brown) and “gray snow” (light gray). The price for one of these handmade cats caves is 79.99 €. The “inner life” of the caves is partly from off-white felt, partly in felt in the basic color of the cave.

Inner workings of the kivikis Filzhöhle

We were allowed a cave in the size “large” in the color test “sand brown”.

The caves are handmade (wet felted) from Merino sheep wool. For this reason, all the caves are unique and differ in size and color nuances all a little bit. The manufacturer kivikis draws its material with the Swedish company “Klippan AB textile” . For coloring the caves special, certified colors (mostly of natural origin) are used.

Input the kivikis Filzhöhle

Entrance of the cave seems to be handled specially reinforced: he feels a little thicker than the rest of the cave and goes back even after crumpling to its original form.

Caring for the kivikis Filzhöhle

Already on the board of the cave are printed in English care instructions. The cave is quite easy to care for because of their material (felt). You can suck them and with a simple damp sponge to remove small spots (cold water + soap). The cave may of course in larger dirt in the washing machine: simply set the wool program andnot hurl. The care instructions further points out that wool itself has a certain self-cleaning function and the cave therefore rarely must / should in the washing machine.

It also explains that the cave after such a cycle can lose their shape – the but you can counteract by stuffing the still slightly damp cave with paper in the form and allowed to dry so. It is important also to know that too much soap and can leave the material of the cave look ugly to hot temperatures, but we do so also of woolen clothing known. Here you can incidentally Video – suitable for care instructions – look.

What is good about the cave in my opinion?

The cave consists of a sturdy material that is additionally perfectly natural and harmless. Many cats like felt – especially in wool – very: it warms nicely, is soft and conforms to the body shape. Above all, it takes the slight odor of cats after a few uses at: giving – in addition to the cavity shape – safety and security. If I buy fabrics for my cats or hold hands for the first time in my first test is the smell test: what smells chemically or artificially, can not be really healthy and is equal to sorted out. The cave of kivikis smelled of wool and nothing else. This has surprised me pleasantly.

In my opinion, the cave is well made and feels soft and cozy. While this is not an issue which relates to the quality of the product, but I think it’s worth mentioning that the customer service was excellent: all of my questions (often working day after only a few minutes) answered in detail and lightning-fast. Since I also wanted to know more about the material used due to the request of our readers, I have also asked questions that might have been some manufacturers unpleasant. They gave me honest information and was the source of the raw material known. The statement “there are no secrets” (translated quote) surprised me really pleasant.

What is the cave in my opinion less good?

For me there is nothing that speaks against this cave.

Our experiences with the Filzhöhle of kivikis

Normally my cats are cautious when I anschleppe new textiles: they smell best new and unusual and are usually shunned and sniffed before you get closer looks at for a few days. In this cave I was able to experience a first: even as I made product pictures for the review to Muffin jostled me and past the camera and went without hesitation into the new “thing”.

I could then also see that the size of “large” for my 7-pound fur bomber is more than suitable. Comfortable the cave seems to be. Even Casimir wanted to look absolutely times)

I’ve since the arrival of the cave again more space in bed, because someone always sleeps at night in the Three )

Conclusion for me:
We can highly recommend the Filzhöhle of kivikis: it is neatly made and of high quality. For cave loving cats she is probably just right. From our cat household it is no longer possible to imagine)
